What is PMDD?
PMDD stands for “premenstrual dysphoric disorder” and is a special form of PMS. While PMS is (unfortunately) very well known to menstruating women, hardly anyone knows about PMDD. With PMDD, there is an added mental component: in addition to physical symptoms, depressive mood changes can occur during the period between ovulation and menstruation. Although up to 15% of women of childbearing age are affected, PMDD has only been officially recognised as an illness for a few years.
